Music, Science and Reality

Human and other beings have used music for healing since the first ages of life. The scientific-minded, whether it be out of fear or lack of control often say, "Sure! When nothing else works, just get out the old rattle and drum and scare the sickness away!" So what if it worked most of the time.

What if I could prove to you that the structure of our DNA, the encoded genetic information in every cell of our bodies, has the same mathematical properties as music? Yes, there are many different kinds of music (no accounting for taste!), yet I would say that in at least 90% of all music ever produced, there is an underlying structure that allows us to identify it as music.

People have been mathematically toying with this underlying structure since the earliest Hindu civilizations and the early Greeks, like Pythagorus. We now have a wealthy knowledge base of music theory and math. The body of genetic science is growing daily with widely accepted theory and research. We are making connections between these divergent fields of thought. Ancient spiritual disci-plines are now impacting theoretical physics and the genetic science of human health and healing. Genetic science is linked to an ancient book of Chinese phi-losophy.

I am immersed in these connections as I study and practice in the disciplines of health/healing, spirituality and music theory. For instance, a musical scale of seven notes exists. Many of us can even sing "do re mi fa so la ti do" in a recognizable fashion. This same scale, with all of its variations and permutations, has the same structure as amino acid chains of the DNA, with all of their variations and permutations. I discuss much of my study, thought and theory in my soon to be published book: The Tao of Just About Everything.

Healing, Medicine and Music

Many great figures of the past have had a reputation for possessing the power to heal. In some cases, this included the ability to heal through touch, or by thought, and even over great distances. In what we think of as more conventional forms of treatment, the intuitive ability of the healer may have a great effect on the outcome of the treatment.

The holistic viewpoint is that the body/mind is part of the whole environment, the whole of nature, of the cosmos, of the greater spiritual essence that contains and is contained in EVERYTHING. The body/mind therefore heals itself, and the true healer neither heals nor destroys. He/she/you/me/we/it allows blockages to be removed, awareness to be created, energy to be released and balanced.

Perhaps at one time everyone had this sacred ability. As society developed into more specialized units, only certain ones practiced healing. As society devel-oped along more "materialistic" lines--losing both connection and reverence for NATURE and SPIRIT--these powers became even more rare. In general, the more a community ruralized and isolated itself, the more its members kept an awareness and use for things like medicinal plants and naturopathy.

Fortunately, there still exists enclaves of holistic thinking--some more "primitive" than others. Old teachings--most developed and handed down through oral tradition--are now being re-discovered and widely dispersed. The Tantric traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and the inner teachings of Tai Chi Chuan are examples of systematic training for developing the energy necessary for healing work. Some are born with it, or go near death to receive this gift.

There are many kinds of healing. They all do essentially the same things.
Music is classified as a branch of vibratory healing. It works in much the same way as any other healing system:

  • First, it relaxes the body and mind . Music being pure vibration can pass through the blood/brain barrier. It can affect the cells on a deep level.
  • Secondly, it stimulates hormonal and immune system activity, aiding circu-lation and respiration. This helps regrowth, rejuvenation and detoxification
  • Next, it works to balance the energetic systems related to the major organs
  • Additionally, music produces a positive state of mind by nourishing the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. It is a transmission of LIGHT.
